When we (Tapiwa and Kudzai) founded Blue Pear Cleaning in January 2020, our mission was to create cleaner, safer spaces so that people can lead healthier and happier lives. Our sole aim was to provide clinical cleans in homes of immunocompromised individuals (cancer patients and those with chronic long-term illnesses), to give them a better environment in which to recover, and to eliminate as many germs as possible so their bodies have fewer things to fight against.
As healthcare professionals, we understood the patient pathway, and the Discharge Nurses’ struggle to find suitable accommodation to discharge patients to, which in turn, would prolong the patients’ hospital-stay and cost the NHS £400 daily. We also understood the pathophysiology of immunocompromising diseases such as cancer; and that when people are in receipt of care within their own homes, the government-funded service normally consists of personal and medical care, but not necessarily up-keep of their home environment.
Although we were new to both ‘cleaning’ and ‘business’, we understood that a clinical cleaning service was not a “wiping and vacuuming” service – it was 4 times better! It involved removing as much physical dirt and as many germs as reasonably practicable in order create that hospital-level quality of clean. After much experimentation (fails, successes, and hours wasted on Netflix during the initial lockdown months), we have developed a unique way of creating a clinically clean environment within a residential home, a clinical setting or a commercial space. We’ve since been awarded cleaning and disinfection contracts for care homes; dental and doctors’ surgeries; commercial settings and people in their own homes. Our true mission is to create cleaner and safer spaces so that people can lead healthier and happier lives; we’re growing, we’re excited to have been short-listed for a Gold NOVO Award and to have won a Classic NOVO Award, we feel we’re leading society toward a better tomorrow.
