This 2-day course is aimed for students who have not attended any previous training on Dangerous Goods by Ocean, or for those who feel that they need to upgrade their knowledge on the topic.

A level of Dangerous Goods knowledge is required in order to attend this course and it is recommended that you have access to the Sea IMDG Regulations

We recommend that all students refresh their knowledge every two years to be in line with the current IMDG regulations.

The IMDG details the functional training requirements for all staff who handle or process dangerous goods shipments. Our training covers all job roles from shippers, freight forwarder through to ocean carriers.

By the end of the course learners will be able to confidently use the regulations to:

  • Correctly prepare a consignment of dangerous goods for ocean transportation
  • Validate whether a consignment has been correctly prepared for sea transportation
  • Adhere to practices and standards regarding the preparation and handling of goods for ocean transportation.

Our training encourages participation and we like to ensure that the course is relevant, interesting and engaging.

Full details of course:

  • List their legal responsibilities
  • Locate information from all sections and appendices of the IMDG Regulations
  • Classify a consignment of DG and identify the precedence of hazards and the packing groups
  • Select a proper shipping name from the list of Dangerous Goods
  • Locate and identify information shown on the dangerous goods note
  • Select the correct packing instructions and the general packing requirements
  • Correctly mark and label a package in compliance with DG Regulations
  • Identify which dangerous goods must be segregated

Successful candidates receive a certificate of competence, valid for two years, after which they must re-validate their qualification.

PLEASE NOTE: This is a fully regulated course which concludes with a regulated test, a pass must be achieved in order to receive official validation.

Re-sits are available but it is advised that they should be taken within one month of the original course.
