PlastiCity is a three-year European funded (Interreg 2 Seas) research project, which began in May 2019. We are working to increase the amount of commercial and industrial plastics recycled in the 2 Seas Region – UK, Belgium, France and the Netherlands. Over the duration of the project, we aim to research and develop solutions to process more of these materials, which will provide opportunities for businesses to increase their overall recycling rates to over 50%.

During this two part workshop, we’ll provide an overview of the project, exploring the materials collected and collaborating to design products from lost plastic. We will also consider the various techniques that could be used to turn plastic waste into new products – including an introduction to 3D Filaprint, a Southend based company already using recycled plastics.

The workshop will be split into two parts. The first is a virtual event on Wednesday 16th February, where we will provide an overview of the project, introduce the design briefs and present the plastic feedstock. The second event will be hosted at The Hive in Southend on  Wednesday 9th March. This will be an opportunity to discuss and develop ideas, meet others engaged in the project, build new partnerships and network with local businesses and individuals.

Workshop 1 – Wednesday 16th February 22, 14:00 – 16:00 (Online)

Workshop 2 – Wednesday 9th March 22, 14:00 – 17:00 (The Hive)
