Event Summary:

The Resolution Foundation and the Money, Macro and Finance Society are co-hosting a series of webinars to dive into the big economic challenges thrown up by COVID-19. Professor Simon Price from Essex Business School will chair one of the webinars, on the challenges caused by the unequal impact of COVID-19 on the labour market, featuring Nobel Prize winner and Essex alumnus Professor Sir Chris Pissarides. The webinar series includes a contribution by former Essex Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sir Ivor Crewe.

About this Event

The COVID-19 pandemic has affected almost everyone’s working life, but in very different ways – from remote working, to being furloughed and losing work altogether. The speed and scale of rising unemployment in many countries has been unprecedented. And with the crisis far from over, unemployment is likely to get far worse before it gets better.

In this webinar, Nobel laureate Professor Sir Christopher Pissarides will set out his thoughts on the nature of the jobs crisis we face, and what that means in terms of the policy response, before we hear from US labour market economist Professor Tara Sinclair.

Viewers are able to submit questions to the panel before and during the event. Register to receive an access link.

Speakers:

Christopher Pissarides, Regius Professor of Economics, LSE

Tara Sinclair, Associate Professor of Economics at the George Washington University, and Senior Fellow, Indeed Hiring Lab

Simon Price, Professor of Finance, University of Essex and MMF (Chair)

This event series is organised jointly by MMF and the Resolution Foundation.
