Free People Management Workshops for East Sussex Businesses

Published on in Uncategorised

Local businesses are invited to find out how to recruit, retain and manage their workforce at workshops taking place across East Sussex next week.

The workshops are part of a programme organised by Business East Sussex Growth Hub to help local businesses get ready for the changes and challenges of operating in a post-Brexit economy.   Sessions on marketing opportunities will be offered later in the month.

The workshops will be led by Nicky Histed of The People Hub.  She will offer practical advice on how to recruit the right people and ways to improve staff engagement and retention.

The workshops will also address changes in employment law and what employers will need to do to ensure they are compliant.   The discussion will cover the new legislation coming into force in April as well as changes brought about by Brexit.

Mike Watson, Business Navigator with Business East Sussex Growth Hub, said: “There is going to be a considerable amount of change and uncertainty in the near future, and the businesses that are prepared will be better placed to thrive.

“One of the biggest challenges for businesses over the next few months will be making sense of the impact of leaving the EU.  Although the situation is yet to be clarified, there are recommended activities you can take now to prepare your business.   In order to prevent a labour shortage issue, assess your workforce now and engage with affected employees. In short, take control now to safeguard your key assets.

“All businesses are likely to be affected one way or the other, whether or not they employ EU nationals.  We are likely to see changes to pensions, working-time regulations and TUPE for example over the coming months.”

The workshops will take place from 9am-12pm as follows:

  • Tuesday, March 3, at the Brewery Yard Club in Rye
  • Wednesday, March 4, at StonesThrow in Crowborough
  • Thursday, March 5, at the Newhaven Enterprise Centre

The workshops are free to attend but delegates are asked to register in advance at http://bit.ly/businesseastsussex
